About Play Art

Play Art App by Mama Suranya Books is a creative and educational Indian art based children’s colouring and stickers activity app with beautiful artwork from the story and folk art books of independent publisher Mama Suranya Books. If you are a parent looking for activities that will connect your children to Indian artforms and aesthetics, then Play Art App is just for you.

The colouring pages and stickers are from our popular illustrated storybooks like The Peacock Who Wanted to Fly Like an Eagle; The Mango, the Ant and the Bucket of Water; Red Moon; A Summer’s Tale and The Battle of Northway. The artwork is inspired by Indian folk and classical arts. The colouring pages include folk art drawings from our colouring book series, Folk Art with Real Artists, by leading Indian folk artists.

Children will gain a rich aesthetic visual experience on the Play Art App and also be encouraged to experiment with different Indian folk artforms like Rajasthani Phad and Madhubani. The music has been composed by Ustad Arif Ali Khan of the Kairana Gharana to give the App a classical touch, and the sound effects are from Indian instruments such as the tabla.

As with our story and colouring books, the idea of Play Art App is to engage children with Indian art and music in a light and playful way. Thoughtfully crafted by the author-illustrator of Mama Suranya Books who is herself a mother of two little children and like many Indian parents felt the need for more digital content for children that drew from the rich folk and classical art traditions of India. They should be part of our children’s world even as they engage increasingly with new technology and digital media.
